Video: Spyderco 2016 Production Sample – Gayle Bradley Packer

March 23, 2016

Click here for a more detailed look at the Spyderco Gayle Bradley Packer production sample.

Last February, Spyderco organized the 12th annual ‘Amsterdam Meet’ in, you guessed it, Amsterdam the Netherlands. During the meet, Spyderco’s Eric Glesser presented many new concept models, prototypes and production samples that Spyderco is working on. Around 80 knifeknuts attended meet and they were asked for feedback and opinions on the new designs.

This year, we used a live videolink to a big screen, so the entire audience could get a closer look at the various details of the knife during Eric’s presentation. This clip is taken from that videolink. I hope you understand that this was not a purpose-made video presentation, but rather a taped portion of a live presentation. Nevertheless this video offers a nice first look at a new Spyderco design and its backstory.

Spyderco 2016 Production Sample – Gayle Bradley Packer

March 16, 2016

The Packer was a cool medium-sized fixed blade that –to me- looked like it would be right at home on a camping trip or picknick table. I thought the Packer would be a very nice flat utility design. I forgot what type of sheath was planned. Personally, I’m hoping for a Boltaron or Kydex sheath.

Spyderco 2016 Production Sample – Gayle Bradley TAC 1s

March 13, 2016

Apparently, the TAC 1s was Gayle Bradley’s first attempt at a tactical folder design, hence the abbreviation which stands for ‘tactical folder 1 (for) Spyderco’. The flipper seemed a bit long, but it worked very well and it offered a good guard when the blade was locked. I liked the contoured finish and surface pattern of the handle scales. The knife looks straight and metallic, but with those two design features, the thin TAC 1s handled much better than you’d expect from its looks. The TAC 1s looked like the type of tactical folder you could carry all day in a suit or regular clothes and forget you have it on you, until it’s needed.

Spyderco 2015 Production Prototype – Gayle Bradley Folder 2

March 11, 2015

The Gayle Bradley Folder 2 features a CPM M4 blade; a steel preference that apparently came from Bradley’s experience as a cutting competition champion. The original Bradley folder has plenty of fans, and this seemed to be a more refined version of the original design. The Folder 2 was a bit narrower, lighter and thinner overall. The tip seemed to be a bit thicker than the original Bradley Folder though. For a production prototype, this was a very nicely finished piece. It was very smooth and the fit and finish really looked superb.

Spyderco 2014 Production Prototype – Gayle Bradley Fixed Blade

March 3, 2014

I’m afraid I didn’t pick up any background information or details about this fixed blade design by Gayle Bradley, as I was photographing other knives when this knife was presented. This is really a shame as it is a beautiful and practical design. I’m sure my fellow attendees will be able to share more info on this design.

The approximate specifications of the Bradley Fixed Blade prototype are:

Overall Length:  25,5 cm / 10.03 inches
Edge Length: 11 cm / 4.33 inches
Blade Length: 13 cm / 5.12 inches
Blade Thickness: 0,4 cm / 0.16 inches
