I’ve heard that the name Amalgam refers to makers that influenced themes on the design. However, personally, I also see an ‘amalgam’ of Americanized Tanto and drop point. It is not a small folder, but still very thin and very lightweight. Flipping compression locks certainly seem to be a nice combination for Spyderco this year. Do check out Brian’s own thread on his cool design on the Spyderco Forums.

Spydercollector, great pics! How are the scales on the Amalgam? Are they textured and grippy or smooth?
I recall the scales having a smooth finish.
The scales have a lightly textured peel ply finish. Kind of in between totally smooth CF and peel ply G10.
Thanks for the clarification Brian!
