Spyderco C101 Manix – EDC Forums

This is one of the rare Spyderco folders in my collection, the C101 Manix made for edcforums.com back in 2011. It seems that the forum has been offline for some time, but this beautiful folding knife endures.

This Manix features an S30V steel blade and ‘Moonglow’ scales, that light up when charged with light. I couldn’t snap a decent picture of it ‘at night’ so these are just images made in daytime. This knife was from the first 600 knives made in this exclusive run for the EDC forums, that featured these more opaque scales. I think the material is kirinite, but I’m not sure. The second batch of 400 folders featured a more transparent material for the handle scales, that would show the underlying liners quite easily.

It’s an older Manix, with the translucent polymer cage for the ball bearing lock and it seems the edge was still hand ground on these knives. Later and current Manixes (or Manii?) appear to be sharpened by a robot. Regardless, the fit and finish is superb, as is the opening/closing action. It’s a joy to carry this piece!
